The Breitling Endurance Pro 38 Is The Ultimate Athleisure Watch
Breitling is a brand with deep roots in professional instruments, and the Endurance Pro is one of the strongest examples of this in the current collection. Since its release in 2020, the lightweight, high-accuracy chronograph has won plenty of fans for its purpose as an actual sports watch — one you’re not afraid to actually wear during high-intensity activities — something that can’t be said for a lot of other luxury sports watches. However, if there was one regular complaint levelled against the OG Endurance Pro, it’s that 44mm is a lot of watch. Perhaps too much for some people. If that sounds like you, you can rest easy, as Breitling has just announced a new 38mm Endurance Pro as part of a collection-wide refresh.
Breitling is billing this smaller take on the Endurance Pro as the ultimate athleisure watch, and certainly, the portmanteau hits the nail on the head when it comes to the chronograph’s essential personality. Let’s address the athletic side of the story first. The Endurance Pro is made from Breitling’s proprietary carbon material — Breitlight. The brand says this material is nonmagnetic, thermally stable, hypoallergenic, and highly resistant to scratches, traction, and corrosion. I can’t speak to all that on a scientific level, but it sounds impressive, and it’s incredibly comfortable on the wrist. Obviously, the watch is a chronograph, the sportiest of complications. Both sizes are powered by thermocompensated quartz calibres, adding to the watch’s lightweight and knock-about nature. If you’ve ever wondered what thermocompensated quartz is, it’s a term that refers to the fact that the regulating quartz crystal has been adjusted to ensure minimum deviation caused by temperature. If you’re going to get a quartz watch, get a cool one.
Now, how about the leisure part of the equation? Well, aside from the comfort, the main selling point here appears to be the colours on offer. The larger 44mm model is now being offered in navy, orange, white and light blue. The Endurance Pro in 38mm comes in five hues, too: purple, pink, white, light blue, or red. These summery new colours, along with the smaller size, suggest that Breitling is hoping to woo women’s wrists to this new model, and honestly, we get the appeal.
It wouldn’t be a Breitling new release without a Squad involved, and for the Endurance Pro, the brand has added two professional endurance athletes to its Triathlon Squad: German Olympian Jan Frodeno and Swiss Ironman champion Daniela Ryf.
