Accutron has announced their latest collaboration with New York’s own Hudson Whiskey. Where previously the result of this collaboration was a special selection of single barrel Rye to honor Accutron’s 60th anniversary, now the iconic space age watch company has created something of their own – a Limited edition Spaceview Evolution, with a host of new design elements and details, creating a fresh new take on this enigmatic timepiece.

The Spaceview’s electrostatic movement is a striking sight, with the spinning turbines whirling away in response to the wearer’s movements, charging capacitors which continuously power the timekeeping mechanism. It’s a little bit of space age black magic that results in a movement unlike virtually anything else out there. But with this latest collaboration, the technical and architectural dial receive a new treatment, further illustrating just how dynamic this watch can be.

Rich green screws punctuate the black bridges throughout the open-work dial, with accents of perlage further accentuating the contemporary design. Through the black bridges, perlage accents have been applied, further emphasizing contrast and catching the light in dynamic ways as it passes through the domed sapphire crystal. The seconds hand and the Accutron tuning fork logo jump out from the dark in shimmering rose gold.

To further mix it up, the movement itself has been shifted counter clockwise by 30 degrees, changing not only the position of the crown to 2 o’clock, but also shifting the placement of the turbines themselves. This results in a layout almost similar to traditional sport chronographs or vintage big-eyes, where sub-registers are positioned at 3, 6 and 9. It’s a small detail that results in a curious and dynamic shift of perspective and visual impact.

The signed caseback is adorned with both Accutron and Hudson Whiskey branding, as well as the individual watch number out of the total of 144 pieces. The supple black leather strap, with its matching green stitched accents, bears one more nod to the whiskey brand – a rose gold-toned Hudson whiskey bottle hidden on the inside of the strap.
