Now, You Too Can Wear the Tudor Black Bay Ceramic ‘Blue’
If you’re tuned in to motorsports, you might have noticed the sleek watches on the wrists of Visa Cash App Red Bull Formula 1 team members in the paddock. They were black ceramic versions of the Tudor Black Bay with an eye-catching blue dial to match the team’s colors. Now, fans can wear them too as Tudor has finally introduced the followup to its first Black Bay Ceramic watch.
The Black Bay Ceramic was a big deal for Tudor when it was introduced in 2021. It was the brand’s first full-production watch in ceramic — following a one-off, blacked-out ceramic Black Bay with which Tudor tested the waters at the Only Watch auction. More importantly, however, it also introduced a new movement and was the first, and for quite a while the only, Tudor watch boasting the stringent METAS certification. Since then, it’s stood alone as its own little sub-collection within the sprawling Black Bay line, until now.
Abbreviated to the much cooler-sounding VCARB, Tudor announced the F1 team’s sponsorship in March 2024. One of a number of sports teams Tudor sponsors, the watch release strategy is effective if familiar. Watch brands often sponsor sports teams, and the team gets a special watch — one with the dial matching the team’s colors. Tudor successfully built some anticipation by teasing the watch on athletes’ wrists before releasing it to the public, but we see it as an effective strategy in part because you never know if such watches will actually become available or be limited in production.
The Tudor Black Bay Ceramic “Blue” is not limited and it’ll join the full collection alongside the original Black Bay Ceramic. It offers the same specs with a 41mm-wide case and the Tudor MT5602-1U automatic movement inside with its rock solid Master Chronometer certification, as an increasing number of Black Bay models feature. The difference, of course, is that vibrantly blue dial. That might seem but a superficial update, but we love to see the collection grow in a thoughtful and deliberate way — rather than with 20 new dial colors. The Black Bay Ceramic “Blue” takes the collection from the single model with a serious, monochromatic, almost military-feeling style and adds an option that’s a lot more sporty and fun.
To match the dial, the Tudor Black Bay Ceramic “Blue” comes with two straps, each black with highlights to match the dial color. Blue is a color that can take on many different characters, and here it appears to be the kind that’s not overly bright but highly saturated for an almost shocking effect. It’s the kind of thing you’ll probably have to see in person to get a sense of how it wears, but we expect Tudor to overdeliver as always and to impress in this regard as well.
